GENERAL BACKGROUND

I have served for 15 years as an Ulster Unionist Councillor on North Down
Borough Council. In that time I have built up a very detailed knowledge of
the issues facing the whole North Down community and about how to tackle those issues effectively.

I pride my self on working hard on behalf of everyone in the community and on taking a very professional approach to my work. I have a wide range of contacts both politically and throughout the public service - at District Council, Area Board, and Central Government level. I can use those contacts to identify where responsibility for issues rests and to help resolve those issues.

PUBLIC SECTOR EXPERIENCE

Within North Down Council I serve on all the main committees. I currently Chair the important Planning Committee and have served as Chair of the policy Committee. I served as Deputy Mayor and in the millennium year of 1999/2000 had a very successful term as Mayor.

I currently serve on the District Policing Partnership - and am about to become Chair of that organisation. I have served on the South Eastern Education and Library Board and on the Ulster Community and Hospitals Trust.

I am currently vice chair of the Local Government Staff Commission.
